HELLO ONCE AGAIN

After a little more than two weeks, I got my replacement glasses. They fit much better. I had the good folks at Lens Crafters adjust them a couple of times the day I got them. But they are much better than the original pair. I suspect I'll have them tightened a bit more before I am through making regular trips to the store.

You might think that the fact that I haven't Posted for two weeks and just now getting new glasses after a two-week wait has some correlation. No so! These two things just coincided.

The 2008 Student Leadership Forum about which I have previously posted is history. It was a rather unique Forum this year. This was due mainly to the fact that many of the people who had worked in setting up the Forum the past 12 or so years could no longer do so because of job changes, etc. And because of the Congressional ethics reform laws recently passed, Congressman Pence’s involvement had to be severely curtailed along with that of his staff.

But it was a great experience for me -- as always. I met some wonderful students; had a great group which I was privileged to facilitate and renewed friendship with folk from previous Forums. Now I have a whole new set of people added to my daily prayer list! Praying for my family and friends is such a blessing. I feel even more connected to them when I am praying regularly for them.

Due to the Congressman’s schedule we were so late getting a date set and it had to be so early in January that the dates worked against us. We only had 20 students but they were great. God knew exactly what we could handle this year. Had there been more attendees we’d have been in deep trouble logistically. But everything worked out great.

In addition to Congressman Pence, we had some great speakers. And Congressman Pence was probably the best I have ever known him to be. The state legislature folks were good and so were Indiana Supreme Court Justice Dixon and his wife.

I have been thanking God ever since for the experiences of that weekend. I'm already looking forward to next year's Forum.

And some of the best news: we have an Indiana Student Leadership Forum web site. Check it out--it is www.islforum.org. My friend, Joel, is constructing it and it is great. Right now it is just in the beginning stages. When it is completed there will be lots of pictures, testimonials and students will be able to register on line. This is a goal we have had for years and years. It looks like it is finally happening.

A side note to the Forum: At the Forum I became an official Hoosier--after only 37 years! I was taught how to play Euchre. (Isn't that the "official" game of Indiana?) I had a blast. I can't want for my friend to teach me some more. It was fun!

Tomorrow I begin traveling for work again. I'll be spending more time in a rental car. I wonder what I'll have this time. I'll be traveling some each week for a few weeks. I won't be out every day. Probably just 2 or 3 days a week. Not many will be overnight trips.

It's late. Time to get to bed. To those who read this, thanks for your time to read it. Comments welcome--as long as they are decent! (*wink*)
